Thinking of my Grandpa

This is our local Post Office.
I think the perfect word to describe it
 is Quaint.

It's just a mile down the road.
You would think we lived in the sticks just by looking at this picture.
And well in some ways we do.
 But that's the best part,
We have the best of both worlds, country living,
yet close to town and shopping and even the big city.

I love going to this Post Office.
The Postmaster is the nicest man.
and it's never busy.
The picture on the side of the building is of a woman hanging the mail next to the railroad,
That's how they used to deliver mail way back when, I guess.
The railroad tracks are just 20 yards away.
And when the train used to stop there, it was called English Crossing,
which is where they got the name of the boys' school.
So this Post office has been around for quite some time.

So the last time I was in there,
( I mail packages for Jeremy's store all the time for him)
I noticed a picture with a caption that said:
"OLD POSTMASTERS NEVER DIE.........
THEY JUST LOSE THEIR ZIP."
It was typed just the way my grandma types her family letters,
using an old typewriter and all in caps.
And I thought of her, and I thought of my Grandpa.

Well, my Grandpa used to be a Postmaster in Wenatchee.
So it hit home.
I had to write it down so I wouldn't forget.
I knew my grandma would enjoy that cute little saying.

Sewing and a Snow Day

I started sewing yesterday and just couldn't stop.
Crazy me.
I'm so excited how far I got.

Went from this...
(had about 15 squares to finish)

To this...
laying all the finished squares out.
All 70 of them.

To sewing all the rows together....

To getting it done enough to lay on MJ's bed to see what it's going to look like...

The blue blanket is going to be on the back.
Soft and comfy.
The red gingham fabric and solid red chambray is from MJ's crib bedding.
I needed extra fabric to make it a twin size.
It adds so perfectly, color wise,
but also for sentimental reasons.

I can't stop looking at it, I love it so much and can't wait to get it completely done.

Snow Day....
School was cancelled due this beautiful stuff.
All 2 inches of it.

Makes for a great morning walk.

Last night Jeter and I walked in falling Dip-n-Dots.

Out on the trail

Mason and Mj bought new rollerblades with some Vday $
thanks to grandparents who spoil them rotten.
So we took them out on the trail yesterday to break 'em in.
(George hasn't decided what to do with his $ yet)

Finally talked Mason into getting a haircut.
So much better.

We had a great 4 day weekend.
Woke to snow this morning and a 2 hour late start.
Suppose to be more snow tomorrow.
Love sleepin' in.

Fresh New Look

It's been a while since I've had bangs like this.
Nice to have a change every once in a while.

Wish my hair was actually this color.
For some reason it looks darker in this picture.
Need to start coloring it one of these days
 to cover up the many many gray hairs I have.

Reading and a Race

MJ was in a Readers Theater at Literacy Night at her school.
She was the big bad wolf,
who turns out to not be so bad,
he was only trying to borrow sugar from the pigs.
She did such a great job reading her part.

Her reading skills have improved so much this year.
Thanks to Mrs. Patrick in Learning Lab,
and i'm sure her glasses have helped too.

She's standing next to one of her best friends, Alyse.

Whenever the kids go with me to pick up Jeremy,
it's a race to his store.
Normally I text him "Here" when I get there,
but when they're with me they insist on going in to get him.
They love it.

Mason's Pinewood Derby

Mason's in Cub Scouts all by himself now that George is in 11 year old Boy Scouts.
Dad tried to help Mason build a car that looked like a skate board.
Well, it didn't work, so Mason resorted to using George's car from last year.
Next year we are cheating and buying a premade car for $10.

Mason and George love scouts.
They look forward to Wednesdays every week.
George will be having his first over-nighter soon.
They are building such great skills to help them be
the best they can be.

January Happenings

Mason started basketball a few weeks ago.
We never knew, but he is definitely a natural for this sport.
He's great at offense and defense.
He's really loving it, loves practices and games win or lose.

~~~~~~~~~~~
MJ and Mason built a fort in MJ's room.
Normally a mess like this I make them clean up right away,
but day after day they would play and play together for hours.
Yes, I said hours.
So those hours of playing together with no fighting was so worth the mess.
(Even if it did drive me crazy.)
They kept the fort up for 2 weeks.
It went from corner to corner filling the whole room.
~~~~~~~~~~~

MJ was invited to a Birthday Party at Build a Bear by a neighbor girl.

Each girl got a $20 credit.
She picked a dog, which she named Crystal, and gave her glasses to match.

Mj's been having trouble with her glasses, keeping them up on her nose,
they're just not fitting like they're suppose to,
so the Dr. ordered her a new pair.
She picked out ones that actually look a lot like the ones
Crystal has on. She's excited to have matching glasses.
